The Brain Creates the Zone

How does the brain create the zone? And what is actually happening when you are in the zone, which in turn allows for more people to trust it and experience it?

It is about repetition and anticipating. Using this and other research has enabled us to be so much more effective in coaching shooters, golfers, fishermen, and businesspeople to train their brains to anticipate farther and farther in front of where they are.

This is the essence of what practice is really about. It’s why doing the same things in the same way with routines is so important.

There is a circuit in the brain that does nothing but anticipate ahead of where you are. Our understanding is that skill is the ability to anticipate farther and farther ahead of where you are. Through chunking, it allows for higher levels of performance with less conscious input.

This is one of the most powerful realities we have stumbled on to get people to actually trust themselves – because they know what they are trusting!

The other huge thing is they begin to take their practice to higher and higher levels. They understand that they are building their own anticipation circuit and understand through chunking things together that they will improve their ability to perform.
